Michan Architecture Architecture
Michan Architecture is a Mexico City–based studio founded in 2010 and led by Isaac Michan and Alexandra Bové.
The work of the studio operates between architecture and other forms of spatial thinking, engaging questions of use, form, and atmosphere across different scales and contexts. Rather than following a fixed language, each project is approached as a specific response, shaped by its physical conditions, cultural context, and economic framework. This position has led to a body of work that moves between housing, cultural projects, and hospitality, as well as between new construction and adaptive reuse. Multifamily housing forms a significant part of the practice, understood not only as a technical or economic problem but as a spatial and collective one.
Across projects, there is a consistent interest in clarity of concept and precision in material expression. Spaces are developed through the relationship between structure, envelope, and interior conditions, often seeking a balance between restraint and intensity. The studio’s work also extends into more experimental territories, where boundaries between architecture, landscape, and object become less defined. In this sense, built projects and smaller interventions inform one another, establishing a continuous exchange between scales and disciplines.
Isaac Michan - Founding Partner & Principal
An architect and designer educated in Mexico, Australia and the United States, Isaac Michan understands that culture and context are not tied to any one place and no longer of one origin. As Founding Partner at Michan Architecture, Isaac oversees the design and construction phases of projects, striving to create architecture that is at once visionary, contextual, and deeply human, while also defining, fulfilling and exceeding client expectations. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Mexico’s leading Universidad Iberoamericana, with studies at RMIT, a global university of technology, design and enterprise; and a Master of Science in Architecture from Pratt Institute in New York City. In Mexico City, he has taught at Universidad Iberoamericana, Universidad Anahuac and the Architectural Association (AA) Visiting School. In September 2025, Isaac Michan was invited to speak at the ‘Ways of Living’ symposium, a forum focused on housing and public space hosted by USC School of Architecture and the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles. In March 2025, he moderated a talk, titled “Second Life,” about adaptively reusing buildings at the 173rd global edition and 2nd edition of the Zak World of Façades in Mexico.
Alexandra Bové - Partner & Principal
Joining Michan Architecture in 2022, Alexandra Bové focuses on the interior architecture, design, furniture, and detailing of projects. A trained architect, she explores the tactility of design; the use of light to create ephemeral spaces or zones of respite and introspection; the use of select or strategic apertures to direct a view; and the conscious use of materials and their lifespan to hint at timelessness. HIYA, a small robata and wine bar defined by locally sourced wild tamarind wood, beige stucco, and fair-faced concrete, reflects a total interior environment completed under Ale’s direction, includ- ing custom furniture and chair designs. Originally from Spain, she holds a Bachelor of Architecture and Master’s degree in Science of Construction from Escola Tècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB). Prior to joining Michan Architecture, Alex worked at Liebman Villavecchia Arquitectos in Barcelona, overseeing residential projects.
